Organisation of the maintenance agency

This standard provides one means of conforming to essential safety requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (so-called PED). Through the publication of its reference in the Official Journal of the European Union, it gives presumption of conformity to the essential safety requirements identified in the Annex ZA of each part. EN 13445 is the key standard in the field of pressure equipment.

The EN 13480/MHD maintenance agency is the central point for collecting questions from users of the standard. It is composed of European experts who were involved in the drafting of EN 13480 and any other experts nominated by CEN members. If you have any questions, please download the form available on the MHD website. The mission of the EN 13480/MHD maintenance agency is to provide answers for corrections and interpretations related to EN 13480. If EN 13480/MHD cannot solve a question, it is sent back to the relevant Working Group of CEN/TC 267. The questions asked can lead to technical modifications to EN 13480 which are addressed by the CEN/TC 267 according to CEN rules (registration to the CEN/TC 267 work program, submission to vote).

The maintenance agency send an email to EN 13480/MHD experts to validate the answers to the questions:

If the question results in a 'no action' or in an 'interpretation', the author of the question is informed.
If the question is technical, then it is sent back to the relevant Working Group of CEN/TC 267. The author of the question is informed.
If the question results in a 'correction', EN 13480/MHD secretary prepares the corrected pages to be sent to CEN, for circulation to NSBs (National Standardization Bodies) as a new "Issue" of the standard. The author of the question is informed.

News

Following the publication of the new edition 2024 of EN 13480 series, a new revision round is about to start, with the instruction of new technical subjects arising from industrial feedback and user questions from the maintenance group (MHD). Draft amendments for Parts -1 “General”, -2 “Materials”, -3 “Design and calculation”, -4 “Fabrication and installation” and -5 “Inspection and testing” are planned. The year 2025 will therefore be devoted to developing these draft amendments within the framework of the relevant working groups.

When questions cannot be solved by email, they are discussed during meetings of EN 13480/MHD for final validation. The list of questions registered on EN 13480 is available for download :

The questions are presented in a chronological order for each part. As for the questions still under discussion, no answer is shown. You can also find answers to your questions about the current version of the standard in previous years MHD answers (about the former edition of the standard).

New rules of publication have been adopted for EN 13480 series through CEN/BT Decision C172/2021, which apply since the publication of the new Edition 2024. Once the new amendments are published, they will be directly consolidated into the current standard in accordance with CEN publication Rules. The list of corrected pages will continue to appear in the dedicated informative Annex Y. The consolidated versions will be offered for citation in the OJEU
